The Austrian company Frequentis, headquartered in Vienna, is a global supplier of communication and information systems for control centres with safety-critical tasks. Such ‘control centre solutions’ are developed and marketed by Frequentis in the business sectors Air Traffic Management (civil and military air traffic control, air defence) and Public Safety & Transport (police, fire brigade, ambulance services, coastguards, port authorities, railways).
Frequentis develops and optimises systems for customers in safety-critical areas of the global mega-markets for transport and safety infrastructure – wherever efficient and flexible high-performance solutions are required. Frequentis was founded in Vienna in 1 Juli 1947 by Emanuel Strunz.
During that time the company’s engineers designed, developed and fielded a wide variety of technical products for the reconstruction after World War 2, such as radio systems including accessories for civic services, gendarmerie/police and fire brigade.
In 1950 the radio station “Vienna II” was set up for RAVAG in Vienna.
In 1955, the first air traffic control contract for Vienna-Schwechat Airport was concluded.
In 1983, Mr. Hannes Bardach first took over the technical management and in 1986 and as part of the Austrian management buy-out initiative, also the shares in the company. Mr. Bardach developed the small company with 45 employees and a turnover of 2.9 million euros into an international group of companies.
During the 1990s, Frequentis introduction of fully digital voice communication systems in air traffic control for the European air traffic control Eurocontrol. Now Frequentis is heading an international group located in Austria, Germany and the United States of America supplying the international market with their services and products in in the field of air traffic control systems and software for security authorities.
